White Cathedral Wedding Inspired Dangle Earrings

I love the classic look of the Renaissance era.

There was something elegant and romantic about this time that no other time in history can match.  It's the beauty with simple adornment, the long and effortless lines that need little ornamentation to look stunning.  Whether this was evident from architecture or fashion, the unfettered beauty speaks to me and touches my soul.

With this in mind, I was reminiscing a few months ago about some Czech glass beads I found at a trunk sale (limited inventory at a reasonable discount, usually sold out of a trunk, hence the name trunk sale) that were called cathedral glass beads.  The beads themselves look like they had built in bead caps that were ever-so-slightly tarnished, like the look in an old European cathedral.  I happened to find a strand of these in classic white which thrilled me to no end, and they became the centerpiece for these earrings:

When I think of these earrings, I picture them with an elegant, yet simple wedding dress - like this:

Sometimes simplicity is more elegant than endless poufs, pearls, and pretties.
This is the quiet elegance that really speaks to me and tells me a story.

Through the Looking Glass - Tranquility

I never seem to be as inspired or as at peace working if I don't have a good window view into the outside world.  When hubby and I were house-hunting during the winter of 2012-2013, this was in the forefront of my mind after seeing dozens of houses and finding in each one that there was something missing.

That crazy, indefinable something kept persuing me - back and forth between two states, across the mighty Mississippi and back again, leaving me in a quandry.  Until one blustery and bittercold afternoon, my hubby calls me from the hotel he was staying at while working in the area that was soon to become home for the two of us.  He tells me in a hushed voice that the house he had just viewed had a backyard like a park and that I would fall in love with the views from the huge windows.  At this point, I'm intrigued by the catch I hear in his voice.

Up until that moment, I couldn't imagine living in any of the places we viewed - I felt like we had seen it all.  A house with a toilet in the middle of the basement - nothing else, just a toilet.  Apparently that was the 2nd bathroom, according to the realtor.  Not for me, though.

Then there was the house with a basement that looked like it pulled inspiration from a 1960's casino, complete with mirrored bar, bar pulls, wood panelling, and red and black carpeting reminiscent of a deck of cards.  Yes, we saw so much in our travels, evaluating the places that people called home and wondering if we would find that elusive place for us, too.

A few weeks later, when the bout of bronchitis finally let up so I could travel and the weather cooperated (if only briefly), he took me to this house in a town I'd never seen.  After looking out the floor to ceiling windows in the family room, I knew I was home.  The view of the quintessential backyard with an 80 foot oak tree and a generous sized deck with room for family and friends, bordered by an empty lot and a ravine that cuts dramatically away from the sloping land into a sharp drop, filled with aspen and birch trees and more wildlife that I'd seen in more than a decade.  There are deer that come to graze, black squirrels, gray squirrels, bunnies galore that frolic all the day long, and the occasional muskrat, groundhog, and beaver meandering through.

In those few minutes, I saw the seasons change -fading from late winter to a bright and lush spring, a summer with fat bumblebees buzzing and birds chittering and chirping, I could almost smell the first bite of winter in the air with the trees in full color for a rich and vibrant autumn.  In that one moment, I could see the ground blanketed with mounds of snow and the twinkling of lights for Christmas.

It's an oasis, often quiet and still, the only movement coming from the winds whistling through the trees, stirring their leaves, and giving an endless look into the landscape, unfettered by human hands and allowed to be a little wild around the edges.  It's a quiet type of beauty, something that draws you in moment by moment, bringing to life that which I never realized I had lost, that one thing people rush to when they realize it has slowly escaped from their lives - tranquility.

Summer in the Old City

I love the idea of walking through an old city during the start (or the end) of the summer months - there is something magical about that time of year to me, with possibilities that can reach the pure blue skies and dreams that go on for miles that I find incredibly enchanting.

Looking at some of the great work that fellow Etsian pickers and creators come up with, I had to share one of my favorite collections of work.

Genuine Turquoise Earrings with Antiqued Silver

I love the look of turquoise, but will admit to a simple, single truth:
I do not like the traditional Southwest style look that genuine turquoise is often found in.

With that being said, I wanted to incorporate antiqued silver with genuine turquoise in a way that's fun and light, effortless and a little bohemian - not heavy, clunky, chunky, or rustic.  Striking that balance took a few tries, but here is what I walked away with having created:

Lavender for Spring

I love the look of lavender in the spring, there is just something about this unique shade that tells me warmer days on waiting just beyond the horizon and that the cold bite of winter has finally passed.  One of the most beloved colors for spring weddings, lavender looks effortlessly elegant, perfectly poised in a garden wedding, or delightfully chic in an urban setting.  There is no landscape or decor that a little lavender cannot improve.

The Blue and the Gray

The Blue and the Gray

I love creating with a tongue in cheek attitude...or maybe with a boatload of sarcasm, but this time it was purely tongue in cheek.  I was saving the sarcasm for another time.

I love the play of Montana sky blue Czech glass faceted beads with the petite hematite semiprecious stone cubes.  It's a little sassy, blue jeans chic, and gypsy.  To go with my gypsy traveling spirit, or maybe these earrings are one of my favorites because they look amazing with jeans.

What's Life Without Time for the Beach?

Beach Bohemian Earrings in Sea Green

I love beach style, that rare lazy feeling your get when you finally have an afternoon or a long weekend to spend lounging at the pool or just walking along the boardwalk.  When I design earrings, I love to create a mood, an atmosphere that tells a story and this is one of my favorite tales!  It doesn't hurt that it's the start of what may prove to be a long and blustery Midwest winter and I just got back from New Orleans a few weeks ago.  That post vacation feeling is still lingering, but not for too much longer as the dreaded words "wind chill" are be bandied about in weather forecasts.
